Logbook entry #49 Creativity needs space

Ortunabhaengiges arbeiten

Today I’m sitting at my desk in my home office. The familiar surroundings, the peace and quiet, my deeply relaxed cats, the warm oven – just what I need, exactly what I need to concentrate on my daily tasks. It ‘s fascinating how different the perfect workspace can be, depending on what I’ m working on or how I’ m feeling. Sometimes the clear structure of an office inspires me, other times a place near a window with a view of the greenery.

Creativity needs space

What I realise again and again is that creativity needs space. And by that I don’t just mean physical places, but also the freedom to choose them. Everyone has different needs when it comes to, to concentrate on work, develop ideas or drive things forward. This individuality is a strength, that we not only accept, but actively encourage in our counsellors.

Although we rarely meet in the office, our team cohesion works surprisingly well. Perhaps even precisely because we give each other the space we need. We have the freedom to find our own rhythm, and that creates trust and respect. When we meet – be it in video conferences or team meetings – you can feel the energy and connection.meetings – you can feel the energy and the connection, that drives us all.

The beauty of this way of working is that it leaves room for diversity. Everyone can work in the way that suits them best. And yet we pursue a common goal, strengthen each other and share our successes. It shows me again and again that creative work doesn’t need a fixed concept, but rather openness, flexibility and the willingness to respond to the needs of each individual.

There is no right or wrong , only what works for each individual. And this is also reflected in our work with clients. When we talk about professional goals, it ‘ s not just about what and how, but also about where.

Today, for me it is the quiet desk. For someone else, it might be a place full of dynamism. What counts in the end, that we all find our place – and that we stay connected as a team , no matter where we are.

This year a beautiful workplace in Oslo has been added to my favourite workplaces. I would like to share the view with you;-)
